York Catholic golfer tied for 22nd after first-round 79 in PIAA event

York Catholic’s Matt Daryman fired an 8-over-par 79 on Monday during the first round of the PIAA State Boys’ Golf Individual Championship at Heritage Hills Golf Resort in York.

Daryman is tied for 22nd place in the 48-player field and is eight shots behind the leader — Garrett Browning of West Allegheny. Tommy Nettles of Peters Township is second at 72.

The top first-round finisher from the York-Adams League is Fairfield’s Isaiah Logue, who fired a 75 and is tied for fifth place. Among those tied with Logue is Manheim Township’s Craig Hornberger. They are the top first-round performers from District 3.

Council Rock North’s Erica Herr leads the PIAA State Girls’ Golf Individual Championship, also at Heritage Hills, with a 2-over-par 74. She has a one-shot lead over Mt. St. Joseph’s Isabella Dilisio. The top District 3 performer is Central Dauphin’s Allison Cooper, who is tied for seventh with an 82. No girls from the York-Adams League made the PIAA field.

In the PIAA State Boys’ Golf Team Championship at Heritage Hills, Upper St. Clair led after the first round with a 312 total, followed by Manheim Twp. (313), North Pocono (319) and Erie Cathedral Prep (321).

In the PIAA State Girls’ Golf Team Championship at Heritage Hills, Shady Side Academy was first at 342, followed by Radnor (373), Central Dauphin (383) and State College (412).

The second-and-final round in all four championships will be held Tuesday at Heritage Hills.
