Girls’ volleyball, boys’ soccer all-star matches set for next week

A pair of high school all-star contests will be played in York County next week.

The Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association District 3 Girls’ Volleyball Senior Showcase is set for 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Red Lion High School.

A total of 16 players will compete in the best-of-five match, including five from York County, who will compete for the West team. The West team is made up of players from the York-Adams and Mid-Penn leagues, while the East team is comprised of players from the Berks and Lancaster-Lebanon leagues.

The York County players participating will be Spring Grove middle hitter Karli Mummert, Spring Grove libero Kayla Yingling, Susquehannock outside hitter Sherelle Walker, Dover outside hitter/setter Sammie Strausbaugh and West York setter/opposite Emily Sides.

Spring Grove’s Dawn Myers will coach the West team.

Admission is free, but donations are welcomed for the PVCA scholarship fund.

Boys’ soccer match: The York-Adams League Boys’ Soccer Senior All-Star Game is slated for 7 p.m. Tuesday at Red Lion’s Horn Field.

Nearly 50 players will compete in the game.

The South team is made up of players from Dallastown, Red Lion, Kennard-Dale, South Western, Susquehannock, Fairfield, Littlestown, Spring Grove and York High. That team will be coached by Kennard-Dale’s George Miller.

The North team is made up of players from Central York, Bermudian Springs, Biglerville, Dover, Eastern York, New Oxford, Northeastern, West York, York Catholic and York Suburban. That team will be coached by Biglerville’s Jebb Nelson.

Admission for the game will be $4 for adults and $2 for students.
