YORK DISPATCH STAFF REPORTCentral York vs York High football

It wasn’t the way the York High Bearcats wanted the season to end.

After the most stunning one-season turnaround in the history of York-Adams League football, the Bearcats certainly didn’t want to go out with a 56-7 loss to Gov. Mifflin in the first round of the District 3 Class 5-A playoffs on Friday night, Nov. 10.

Still, that’s exactly what happened.

Will Beatty

York High graduate Will Beatty is officially back in the National Football League.

The 6-foot, 6-inch, 319-pound offensive tackle has signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles.

To make room for Beatty on the roster, the Eagles released Taylor Hart, a converted defensive tackle who was trying to make it in the NFL as an offensive tackle.

York Catholic vs Newport in District 3, Class 2-A Championship

I’m writing this column on the morning of Sunday, Nov. 12, the day after the high school football season for the York-Adams League came to an end.

York High football coach Russ Stoner has seen the forecast for Friday night, Nov. 10, and he’s got a problem on his hands.

The York-Adams League will send nine teams into the District 3 football playoffs this coming weekend, but only one team will play at home.

The Susquehannock Warriors (8-2), fresh off clinching its first outright Division II championship since 2006, have earned the No. 4 seed in Class 4-A and will play host to No. 5 seed East Pennsboro (8-2) in a quarterfinal contest at 7 p.m. Friday.
